Darren has served as the Site Director/Challenge Course Manager for camp since moving here in 2001 with his family. Living onsite, he oversees all of the facilities at camp, which he does with great love and enjoyment. Darren attended the University of Memphis where he studied business. He is an Elder in the PC(USA) and is involved with committee work at the church. He has received extensive training in Challenge Course Management and currently holds a Level 2 Certification, which allows him to train on and construct the course here at Hopewell. When you don't see him outside working or riding on the gator, you will probably find him in his woodshop, making outdoor furniture for camp and listening to the music of YES.
Allyson joined the staff of Camp Hopewell in January 2001 as the Program Director and became the Director in September 2012. She works alongside her husband, Darren, and their 2 daughters, Brynn and Gracyn, and the family resides at camp. Allyson has a degree from the University of Memphis in Sociology, and serves in various ways for the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association (PCCCA) and the American Camp Association (ACA). She is an Elder in the PC(USA) and is currently pursuing her Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Columbia Seminary. In her free time, you will find her walking her dogs through the woods, watching sports, reading in her hammock, dancing to 80's music or spending time with her large family.
Each Summer, Hopewell hires counselors, program and support staff to care for the needs of the campers during their week at camp. Potential staff members apply for a position, are interviewed by our director, undergo a background and reference check, and experience two full weeks of intensive staff training to prepare them for the upcoming summer camp sessions.
Elizabeth joined the full-time staff at Hopewell in February of 2016. She is a graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in Sociology. Elizabeth is no stranger to Hopewell, she attended the diabetes sessions as a camper from 1998 to 2008 and then worked on summer staff from 2009 to 2012. When she is not in the office you can find Elizabeth attempting to cook, spending time with friends and family, or playing with her cat, Frank.
